High School Math Symposium 2013
As a result of the hard work of high school math teachers from across Onslow County, several guiding documents are now in place for Foundations of Math I, Foundations of Math II, Advanced Functions and Modeling (AFM), and Standard (Special) Topics in Math (only available for 2013-14).
Foundations of Math IFoundations of Math I is designed to provide students with the concepts and skills necessary to be successful in Algebra I and beyond. It is an elective course credit (not a math credit) and this should be considered when enrolling students in this course.

Foundations of Math IIFoundations of Math II is designed to provide students with the concepts and skills necessary to be successful in Math II and beyond. It is an elective course credit (not a math credit) and this should be considered when enrolling students in this course.
|
Standard (Special) Topics in Math (fourth math)Special Topics in Math is designed to be a fourth math credit for students who are planning on moving on to community college or the workforce. It is not necessarily accepted by the University of North Carolina System as a fourth math. This course is only available for the 2013-14 school year. NC DPI is creating and implementing a new fourth math option for future use.

Advanced Functions and ModelingAdvanced Functions and Modeling is an existing course with existing standards (see NCDPI http://maccss.ncdpi.wikispaces.net/High+School). With the addition of Special Topics in Math, high school math teachers felt it was important to create a shared understanding of this course across Onslow County.
